FAQ
For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.
1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 ESV
What Is a Spiritual Director?
While the process of spiritual direction can take many forms, the true Guide for each decision and conversation is the Holy Spirit. Thomas Merton describes a spiritual director as “one who helps another to recognize and to follow the inspirations of grace in his life, in order to arrive at the end to which God is leading him.” More recently, Christian psychologist David Benner defines this spiritual relationship as “increasing awareness of God in the midst of life experiences and facilitating surrender to God.”
In my experience, the conversations that take place, whether they be across the table or online are mostly listening, praying, exhorting, and illuminating truth through the process of asking and answering Spirit-led questions. My ultimate prayer is that the Holy Spirit leads us to abiding in Jesus, resulting in a life marked by both wisdom and peace.
Do I Need a Spiritual Director?
The role of spiritual direction belongs to the Church. However, because of many factors God’s people are crying out for spiritual leadership and direction. What we value in the business world – life and business coaches – we must also value for our inner lives, those men and women who will disciple the church in spiritual wisdom and direction. If we do not give value to the root in our lives, our relationship to Christ, we will not produce spiritual or life changing fruit. Therefore, I believe He has called on my life – to direct and shepherd the men Jesus gives me so that they may, in turn, lead their families, churches, and business to glorify God.
The Goal
Learning to live a life of abiding in Jesus is the heart of this process/relationship. We will work together to create a “spiritual base,” placing Jesus first, spouses second, children third and finally, your role as a leader in your vocation. As we work through habits to deepen your inner life of abiding, my prayer is that each of the “bases” in your life will develop greater intimacy and impact.
The Process
In John 17, Jesus says, “I have revealed Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have followed Your word.” In other words, Jesus was faithful with the men the Father gave Him. I want to do the same. For those Jesus gives me to disciple, the process would look something like this: we meet twice a month for three months. We will have both work to do together and work to do on our own. I will check in with you every week and you can call me anytime during this process. You will also meet a network of other men I have discipled that will provide other opportunities to grow.
Investment
We will take on a limited number of clients this year. I would love to sit down and discuss what is best for you. We recommend a minimum of six meetings over three months. The monthly cost would be set after our first meeting, however, we want to help you discover the best rhythm and financial scenario for you and your family.
My Privilege
It would be my privilege to be a part of your life. I would love to meet you for coffee and discuss what this might look like in your life. You can call me or set up an appointment through email.
